Silk Road & Beyond

Cambodia

Home to one of the greatest ancient kingdoms of this region, that of the Khmers, Cambodia is a land of contrasts still making its own journey of discovery as it adjusts to life after years ravaged by war. But it has lots to offer the international traveller – as well as unspoiled forests, quiet beaches and a relaxed atmosphere there are the unrivalled ruins of Angkor.

In a category of its own there is no other historical site in South-East Asia that matches its grandeur. Spread over 300km and surrounded by dense rainforest, the temples of Angkor were mostly built between the 9th and 13th centuries as temples of state to serve the Devarja cult that pervaded the prevailing Hinduism of the time.

Accommodation
We normally use excellent quality 4 star hotels on our tours in Cambodia as well as traditional hotel. A range of colonial 5 star hotels are also available on request. In the north of the country, we use the best available accommodation, equivalent to 2 star standard. In the beach resort of Sihanoukville, we use a good 4 star resort hotel.

Transport
A variety of transportation will be used on tour: private saloon cars, minibuses or coaches, depending on the size of the party. The roads in most parts of Cambodia are very rough and travel is slow.
