Ephesus

The pretty town of Selcuk is famous for being a fascinating mixture of all historical periods. The name ‘Selcuk’ comes from the Turkish tribes who settled in the region in the 12th century. From Selcuk, we visit the magnificent site of Ephesus, one of the ancient wonders of the world set in an exceptional location. This was one of the most important cities and seaports in the old world which reached its peak by 1st Century AD but slowly declined from the 4th Century AD. At this time it was notorious for its wealth and luxury and during this period the population of Ephesus increased to 225,000 and the city became the capital of new Asia.

You will not be disappointed by Turkey’s most impressive historical site, where you can admire the massive Theatre, Odeon, the Temple of Hadrian, the City Halls and the Stadium where they held chariot and horse races. As you follow the Marble Road you will arrive at The Celsus Library, one of the city's most magnificent buildings and the finest example of its form in existence.
