Fuji–Hakone–Izu National Park

This area of volcanic mountain ranges, lakes, hot springs and beaches lies 100km southwest of Tokyo and is one of Japan's most popular beauty spots. Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest and most revered mountain has featured in countless paintings and prints and has been praised by Japanese poets throughout the ages. Hakone is an area of high mountains with Lake Ashi nestling in the middle and Mount Fuji to the northwest forming a magnificent backdrop.

Japan sits on a geological region of intense volcanic activity, which gives rise to many natural hot springs or onsens and in Hakone there are hot spring resorts catering for this favourite Japanese pastimes. We recommend staying in a ryokans or Japanese inn with both indoor and outdoor natural hot spring baths.
