A pleasant city, Kerman lies at an altitude of 1755m giving it a cooler climate than some other parts of the country. Once reliant on business from the Asian trade routes its income is now largely derived from carpet production as the barren nature of the surrounding terrain does not encourage agriculture.

Things to see in the city include the Friday Mosque, the bazaar and the 17th century Ganj-Ali bathhouse – which is now a museum depicting the Hamm am (bathhouse) culture which is still prevalent in the country.
