Silk Road & Beyond

Morocco

This enchanting country has long held the fascination of Western travellers and it is easy to see why. Its geographical splendour and cultural heritage combine to make any tour full of highlights.

With its long Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines, near impenetrable Atlas Mountains and Southern Oases that lead into that greatest of all deserts, the Sahara, the scenery is never less than breathtaking.

Add to this the famous Berber hospitality and Islamic grandeur and you have a fascinating country that well rewards a visit.

Travel Essentials
Weather
Morocco’s climate makes for a great all year round destination. The Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts have beautiful bright and hot summer days while winters from November to March can experience some rain. The weather gets hotter and dryer the further south you go. The high Atlas Mountains are snow-capped all year round.

Local Customs
When visiting any foreign country it is always polite to respect the local customs. Take the time before your trip to read up on the countries you will be visiting and perhaps learn a few words of the language.

The majority of Moroccans are Muslims, they range from extremely strict believers to very westernised. In order not to offend general sensibilities it is preferable not to wear very revealing clothes especially in rural areas.
Smoking is common and alcohol is readily available. Handshaking is the customary form of greeting.

Visas
Visas are not required for British Passport holders.

Vaccinations
Nothing compulsory but it is recommended that your vaccinations for polio, hepatitis A, typhoid and tetanus are up to date. Contact any of the following organisations for further information about immunisations.
