This scenic rural area is 150km north of the capital and is completely untouched my mass tourism. Myohyangsan means ‘mountain of mysterious fragrance’ and in summer is covered in flowers. There are lots of trails through the hills and beautiful views and waterfalls.

The focus of any trip here is usually the International Friendship Exhibition. This huge building shows some of the 100,000 gifts that have been given to Kim Il-Sung and Kim Il-Jong. Spread out over 120 rooms there are a wealth of interesting objects to see. The tone is very reverential and it gives a real insight into the country’s political culture. Another interesting thing to see is Pohyon Temple. Dating back to 1044 it is the most important temple complex in the region.
