Oman

Oman was long closed off to the outside world and as a result is shrouded in myth and mystery.
Situated on the Arabian Gulf it’s an ancient nation of seafarers, the home of the legendary Sinbad and at one time controlled the lucrative frankincense trade. As well as the beautiful coastline there are splendid mountain ranges interspersed with fertile oases and a whole collection of interesting forts to visit. The Omani people are renowned for the hospitality and friendly nature.

Weather
The climate here in Oman varies from region to region. Along the coast it is hot and humid in summer while in the interior it is hot and dry. Generally the climate is less harsh in the southern part of the country and in Dhofar there is often light rain with heavy fog across the hills. It is cooler up in the mountains although winters are mild. Probably the best time to visit is from September to early April.
Local Customs
Oman is a traditional Muslim country and as such you should take steps not to offend the people. It is advisable that ladies wear long trousers or skirts here to avoid undue attention. Women should not enter mosques in shorts, short skirts or revealing clothing and should wear a headscarf when entering. Everyone must remove their shoes when visiting mosques.
