Suzhou
Located in Jiangsu province, west of Shanghai is the Garden City of Suzhou. A couple of days can be well spent in Suzhou as it is full of charm, tradition and mystery. The city boasts over 100 hundred Chinese gardens and is dotted with lakes and ponds connected by a spider's web of canals.
Enjoy discovering some of the cities classical gardens; the most splendid of which is the Humble Administrator’s Garden. The gardens has an array of miniature trees known as the Bonsai, winding bridges, gazebos and weeping willows. You can also stroll through the back streets, crossing picturesque bridges passing by little houses and local markets. And all the canals are lined with whitewashed houses with grey-tiled roofs. The canals of the town eventually join up with the famous local waterway known as the Grand Canal, located to the west of the city. It is believed to be the largest internal waterway in the world, and was originally constructed to carry tribute grain from the Yangtze plain to the capital. Once a trading city, today silk retains its significance in the local economy. You can see silk being produced and worn by its beautiful women.
