A highly adventurous trip into the Ferghana Valley of Uzbekistan and across the Irkestan Pass into China which only opened to foreigners quite recently. Follow the original Silk Road and skirt the southern edge of the perilous Taklamakan Desert stopping at various oasis towns on route and then cross right through the middle of the desert on the new Desert Highway and into Kazakhstan.
