Half-day city tour of Damascus, with its monuments spanning 2 millennia. We visit the Umayyad Mosque, one of the marvels of Islamic architecture; Saladin’s Mausoleum, the Ananais Chapel where the Apostle St Paul was given shelter and the 18th century Azem Palace. (B)
Sunday: Damascus – Palmyra – Damascus.
A long day excursion to Palmyra in the Syrian Desert. We visit the ruins of this enormous city, the stronghold of the great Arab Queen Zenobia who dared to challenge the power of Rome. The Roman ruins date from the 1st century AD. (B)
Monday: Damascus.
Day at leisure to relax or visit the old part of Damascus. (B)
Tuesday: Damascus – London.
Transfer to the airport for the British Airways flight back to London. (B)
