Yangshuo

Guilin City
Guilin City
Guilin is hailed by many as the most beautiful place in China and according to a popular Chinese saying, “Guilin’s scenery beats all others in the world.” Its shapely, rising limestone towers and crystal-clear waters are often portrayed in Chinese artworks. Adding to its natural beauty are many fascinating caves. The city also boasts other beautiful hills, such as the Fubo Hill, which is supposed to restrain the waters of the Lijing River, and Nanxi Hill that stands magnificently like a huge screen. We recommend a visit to the Reed-Flute Cave, containing spectacular stalactites and stalagmites.

One of our favourites is the boat trip from Guilin along the Lijiang (Li) gently cruising downstream to the colourful market town of Yangshuo. The scenery is breathtaking as you snake through the limestone cliffs and gorges, on your way to Elephant Trunk Hill and Crescent Hill that is named after its moon-shaped cave opening. Arriving in Yangshuo, a more relaxed town you can enjoy a day or so venturing into the local countryside and walking through the villages to meet the local people. Or simply hire a bike or take a boat trip to the scenic villages of Fuli or Xinping. Yangshuo is a great place to relax, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy China.
